The New Mexico Chapter of the American Herbalist Guild (AHG) was initiated in December of 2004. Spearheaded by Dr. Mota, this chapter has created a venue for New Mexican herbalists to meet and share their knowledge and experiences with other health-care professionals and plant lovers from across the State, as well as network with practitioners on a national level through the AHG.
The AHG is a non-profit organization founded in 1989 that is dedicated to promoting excellence in the practice of clinical herbal medicine and herbal education. It is the only botanical medicine organization in the U.S. to set standards of excellence for its professional members. It is open not only to herbalists, but to a diverse number of practitioners using botanical medicines, including: medical doctors, naturopathic physicians, acupuncturists, pharmacists, nutritionists, midwives, nurses and many others. The AHG conducts an annual national symposium offering continuing education credits, and provides guidelines and mentorship for those seeking training and certification in botanical medicine.
The goals of AHG are to:
Our New Mexican Chapter supports these goals through its monthly meetings and bimonthly educational events. We encourage more people to join and create a voice for herbalists across New Mexico.
